Shadyside is an upscale and modern area on the east side of Pittsburgh. An area that originated as an iron furnace and a small oil refinery, Shadyside grew into a popular residential area in the 1950s, when the retail on Walnut St. began to grow.
Shadyside is known for business centers on three different streets, with Highland and Ellsworth joining Walnut as popular shopping destinations. The area is filled with options from national retail stores to unique locally owned shops. Restaurants range up and down the street from upscale to casual and dive bars.
Everything is walking distance, from the variety of food and cuisine to the libraries, gyms, places of worship and plenty more. It gives off a friendly, neighborhood feeling and presents ease of getting around. Still, Shadyside is just five miles from downtown, ensuring easy access to all areas of the city, while resting specifically close to Oakland, Bloomfield, and East Liberty. Transportation runs through the area as well.
From wonderfully restored Victorian mansions to modern apartments, Shadyside presents a little bit of everything.
